A BYD Dolphin competitor, the Ora will be presented next week at Festival Interlagos

The compact electric segment, which has the BYD Dolphin as the newest participant in the Brazilian market, will get a new competitor yet this year. GWM will present the Ora on Thursday, 7/20, at the opening of the Festival Interlagos Carros20233 at the José Carlos Pace Raceway, in São Paulo.
The Chinese manufacturer that currently offers only the hybrid Haval H6 SUV in the country has not yet disclosed information on its first 100% electric model to be commercialized in Brazil.
Nonetheless, it makes clear that the decision to bring it to the country is not related to the arrival of the Dolphin. The Ora was presented to Vice President Geraldo Alckmin during his visit in April to the plant of Iracemápolis, SP, when the brand’s dealers also knew the model and manifested the dealer net interest in adding it to the local portfolio.
According to a source connected to the net, the Ora GT presented in April will be more powerful and have more equipment than the BYD Dolphin launched last month and a similar price, about R$ 149.8 thousand.
Other models disputing the compact electric segment that, due to the novelties, should grow from now on are the Renault Kwid E-Tech and the Caoa Chery iCar. With the Ora, which shall be sold yet this year between September and November, GWM wants to attract a younger and sportier consumer.
Both GWM and BYD are investing in producing in Brazil beginning next year. GWM bought the Iracemápolis plant previously owned by Mercedes-Benz, and BYD has just confirmed a R$ 3 billion investment in Bahia.
Montana RS also will be in Interlagos
It’s also confirmed for the Festival Interlagos Carros 2023, from July 20 through 23, the first public appearance of the Chevrolet Montana Rs. Among other electric models, the Audi e-tron GT and the Toyota GR Corolla will be exhibited.
The event program includes more than 10 thousand test drives in dedicated areas such as the Interlagos racetrack and an off-road track.
