Research shows truck market trends

The industry and customers defend incentives for those who want to invest in cleaner propulsion systems

In a new Conexão Anfavea event this Wednesday, 9/14, it was released an unprecedented research about the truck sector performed by SAE Brasil, KPMG and AutoData. The interviews covered industry and customer representatives, addressing from the interest in purchasing a brand new model to the disposition to join subscription plans.

The study was presented by Ricardo Bacellar from SAE Brasil. About the adoption of cleaner drive technologies, most of the interviewees defended the need for government incentive programs for those willing to invest in this kind of vehicle. Of the total consulted, 65.6% fully agreed to this permission, and 26.9% partially agreed.

There was total plurality about which should be the most favorable energy sources for Brazil. Among them prevailed the green diesel, but the electrification, hydrogen and biomethane were also highlighted. It means that there is space in Brazil for diverse technologies to co-exist in the transport area in the future, which also shall happen in the light vehicle segment.

Regarding the purchase intention of a new truck, 27.3% said to intend to do it this year, and 22.3% in the next two years. One-third of the interviewed – 62% of them autonomous drivers – made clear that they do not intend to invest in a brand-new vehicle.

About the intention to consider rent offers as alternatives to a truck purchase, 45.5% said yes, 21.5% were undecided, and 33% said no. About the major advantages to opting for a truck by subscription, 33% said it should be a better cash flow and availability of capital for other investments.

For 30.9% of the interviewees, the ideal term for a subscription plan is 24 months. Of the remaining, 21.8% prefer 12 months, and 24.5% talk about 36 months. The 48 months option was chosen by 7.3% and 60 months by 14.5%.
