The European automobile sales began the year with an offer recovery, signing that although the semiconductors shortage persists, the crisis has been attenuated.
According to the balance released by Acea, the association of European vehicle manufacturers, deliveries in January reached 911 thousand units, 10.7% more than in the same month last year (822.7 thousand).
The figures include the European Union countries, the United Kingdom and the EFTA (European Free Trade Association), Island, Liechtenstein, Norway and Swiss.
Nonetheless, the association ponders in a note that the increase is greatly due to a very small reference basis. Sales in January 2022 were this month’s smallest ever.
The advance of electric cars in the region was a highlight in Acea’s report. Last month, the deliveries of 100% electric models grew 13.9% over January 2022 to 93.5 thousand units, 10.3% of cars’ total sales.
The hybrid electric demand grew expressively by 21.8% to 244.4 thousand units, 26.8% of the market. At the same time, plug-in hybrid sales fell 9.2% in January to 64.4 thousand models, 7% of the market.
Gasoline cars still have the largest share. In January, their sales grew 12.3% to 353.3 thousand units, 38.8% of the region’s sales.
Diesel automobiles still have significant participation in sales. Although the registers did fall by 2.4% in January with 127.7 thousand units, the volume corresponded to 14% of total sales.
