World light vehicle sales reached 7.9 million units in June, 105 more than in the same month in 2022. According to Global Data, the main markets registered positive performance in the year-to-year comparison.
Over the first six months of 2023, 42.7 million cars were sold worldwide, 10.7% more than in 2022.

The level achieved in the first semester indicates the industry no longer faces relevant the supply and logistics problems that harmed production during the pandemic.

The growth rate after June points toward an estimated 93 million units global market sales in the year, a number close to those pre-pandemic.

China, the world’s largest market, reached its best monthly result in June, with 2.52 million units negotiated, overcoming May’s results (2.5 million).

In the first semester, the country had 12.96 million vehicles negotiated, an 8.7% increase. Maintaining the growth rate, the Chinese could close the year with 33.4 million vehicles sold, one-third of the world’s market.

World’s second-largest market, the United States, saw sales reach 1.37 million units in June, 20% more than last year. In six months, the country bought 12.66 million vehicles, 12.8% more than in the first half of 2022.

West Europe bought 1.3 million units last month, an 18.8% increase year-to-year. The regional market has benefited from a decline in offer restrictions and better levels of delivery to consumers. The numbers until the end of June indicate an evolution at the same level to 6.7 million units.

In Japan, sales in the first semester added up to 2.4 million vehicles and a 17.8% growth. In South America, the added sales of Brazil and Argentina, the region’s main markets, went close to 217 thousand vehicles last month, 8.9% more than in June 2022. In the year, deliveries exceeded 1.15 million units, 10.3% more than in the same half of last year.
