Without a defined date, Citroën confirmed this Thursday, 7/27, it will launch in Brazil and South America the Ami electric microcar. Already known in Europe for about three years, it can carry two people and has a maximum speed of 45 km/h.

However, as Citroën admits, the Ami cannot be classified as a passenger car. In a video with Vanessa Castanho, Citroën’s vice president for South America, Antonio Filosa, Stellantis’ president for the region, define the Ami as a mobility device. “After all, the Ami is not a car”, emphasizes Citroën’s note.

Nonetheless, in France, the Ami can be driven on the streets by youngsters 14 years old or older. In Brazil, as the two executives’ video suggests, it is more probable that the Ami could be limited to closed circuits for not having devices such as airbags, for instance.

The manufacturer said it is still discussing with the Brazilian authorities which category the Amy would be included in and which circulation limits it will have.

The microcar is 2.41 meters long, 1.39 meter-wide and has a 6 kW motor. The estimated range is up to 80 km, and it can be charged in 110 V or 220 V outlets. Recharging from 0 to 100% takes less than four hours, according to Citroën.
