Renault and Nissan confirmed this Wednesday, 7/26, the continuity of the global alliance created in 1999 that also includes Mitsubishi, controlled by Nissan. The new agreement’s general terms were disclosed in February.

Among them is the reduction of Renault’s hare in Nissan from 43.4% to 15%, the same proportion the Japanese manufacturer already owns of the French partner and will not change. The 28.4% difference will be managed by a neutral French fund that could sell it when Renault considers a favorable moment.

“With the agreements signed today, we can open a new chapter of the Alliance. These agreements strengthen our long partnership and will maximize value generation for each Alliance member. They also launch the base for a new balanced, just and efficient management”, said Jean-Dominique Senard, Alliance’s president.

Another important step is the separation of Ampere, Renault’s electrics and software division. It will become an independent company with strong Nissan participation – the Japanese brand would initially invest 600 million euros.

“The opportunity to invest in Ampere completes and strengthens Nissan’s current electric offensive in Europe and will enable diverse synergies, inclusively regarding cost efficiency, compliance and the expansion of the range of products and motors for electric vehicles”, said Makoto Uchida, Nissan’s CEO.

Renault and Nissan also agreed to develop operational projects in India, Latin America and Europe. It is already decided the production of a Renault model in Mexico to mark the return of the French brand to North America after two decades.
