Renault inaugurated on Thursday, 10/26, the Renault Design Center Latam (RDCL) at the Ayrton Senna Complex in São José dos Pinhais, PR.

The facility is one of the company’s five design centers worldwide and should develop mainly projects for the region.

“The new center will allow the Brazilian designers to expand their contribution to global projects development”, said Luiz Fernando Pedrucci, Renault Latin America’s president. He recalled that the Kardian SUV unveiled globally in Rio de Janeiro last Wednesday, 10/25, and the Niagara concept pickup presented at the same event received a relevant contribution from the local design team.

Renault also keeps design centers in France, Romania, Korea and India. The new facility has 1,220 m² and employs 21 professionals, two of them women.

“Through this new center of creation and exploration of the latest trends, we will increase our participation in the creation of future vehicles for Latin American markets”, remarked Gilles Vidal, Renault brand’s Design vice president. He said the Brazilian operation will increase the participation in internal design competitions for all brand’s products.

Daniel Nozaki, RDCL’s design director, said that the new structure enables full vehicle development, with high-technology equipment aligned to the most advanced systems used by Renault worldwide.

From the model creation and conceptual phase, the work goes through the internal and external design, colors and materials choice and fitting, 3D modeling and physical prototype construction before the industrial design adequation for serial production.

At the new space, an expansion of the structure inaugurated in 2006 in São Paulo, Renault’s designers will find a complete structure including:

Indoor Show Room Design: an interactive model and prototype evaluation room with a 360º rotating platform and a 216-inch high-definition screen for presentations, modeling and 3D 1:1 scale vehicle analysis;

Outdoor Show Room Design: a 500 m² cloistered external area to evaluate models and prototypes under natural light, vehicle perception from diverse angles and distances and colors and patterns development;

Modeling Studio: space to develop physical clay and hard models in different scales, transforming 2D design into 3D;

Virtual Reality Studio: a powerful tool that uses virtual reality goggles for real-time evaluation of 3D creative proposals and provides high-definition support for presentations;

Creative Lounge: an open work area used for brainstorming, concept creation and project development, enabling higher integration and interactivity between the design teams.
