Despite the 18.2% production increase last year, from 1,195,149 to 1,413,222 units, the motorcycle industry has not been able to meet the demand in the country. There is still a lack of about 100 thousand units, and the average waiting line for low-displacement models reaches 30 days.

Marcos Fermanian, president of Abraciclo, the Brazilian association of Motorcycles, Bicycles and similar, released the organization’s projections for 2023, estimating a 9.7% production growth to 1.55 million units. Internal sales should expand by 9.4% to 1.49 million units and exports by 6.7% to 59 thousand units.

“In 2022, we had the best result since 2014”, said the executive, remembering the higher volume of the motorcycle industry in Brazil happened in 2011, with 2.13 million units.

About the current situation, favored by -delivery good performance and the fuel prices that take consumers to migrate from cars to motorcycles, Abraciclo’s president believes the first quarter will still have waiting lines. “In December, our production was limited by the collective vacations. I think only in April the situation will begin to normalize with low-displacement motorcycles available for prompt delivery.

In December, 85,117 motorcycles were manufactured, an 11.5% increase over the same month in 2021 (76,359 units), but a 34.1% fall compared to November (129.216). According to Abraciclo’s president, the sector has not suffered credit restrictions like the car market.

“Financial institutions keep vying for customers”, he commented, informing that, last year, sales on term were 38% of the sector’s business, while cash sales were 34% and through consortiums, 28%.

As anticipated by Fenabrave, the internal market bought 133,344 units, the second-best result in the year. In comparison with previous years’ December, there was a 17.7% increase, and, compared to November, 7.3%. In 2022, 1,361,941 motorcycles were licensed in the country, 17.7% more than in 2021.

The Street category was the best-seller in 2022, with 686,807 deliveries and a 50.4% share. “The manufacturers prioritize the production of these models to meet the demand increase, influenced mainly by the professional use. Other categories also had an expressive increase, as Customs, Scooters and Trails”, told Fermanian.
