After being surpassed by the Hyundai HB20 last October and November and by the Chevrolet Onix in December and January, Fiat Strada went back as Brazil’s bestselling vehicle in February. The compact pickup that led the market in 2021 and 2022 had 8.6 thousand units sold, compared to Onix’s 6.1 thousand.
With this result, it reached 13.8 thousand registers in the first two months of the year, slightly more than Chevrolet’s hatchback, which had 13.2 thousand and was followed by the Onix Plus, with 11.3 thousand units sold.
The ten bestselling automobiles and light commercial vehicles show a significant change in 2023: the Hyundai HB20 plummeted compared to its main competitors.
The model, which was the leading passenger car in 2022 – losing only to the Strada in the general ranking – appears in 10th place with just 7.8 thousand units licensed in the period, 3 thousand in February.
The comparison with last year’s first bimester, when the HB20 had 11.8 thousand units sold, shows a 33% business drop. In the same comparison, Strada’s sales fell just 1.5%, and Onix’s grew by 13%.
SUVs keep in evidence in 2023: four segment models are among the ten bestseller vehicles in the first bimester. With 9.6 thousand sales, the Hyundai Creta is in the fourth position, followed by the Chevrolet Tracker (9.1 thousand). The Volkswagen T-Cross and Jeep Compass are the seventh and eighth.
A sign of times when manufacturers chose the upper segments’ higher profitability: the Fiat Mobi, an entry model and the cheapest of the internal market, is only the ninth place with 8.3 thousand units sold in the first two months of the year.
