With fewer working shifts operating, temporary contract suspensions and collective vacations in some manufacturers, the Brazilian automotive industry produced 189.2 thousand vehicles in June, 7.1% less than in the same month last year and 17% less than in May.
Nonetheless, Anfavea’s data issued this Friday, 7/7, shows that in the first half of 2023, production raised by 3.7% over the same period last year. From January through June, 1.13 million automobiles, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses left the assembly lines.
The government sales incentive program for cars up to R$ 120 thousand and heavy vehicles, launched on June’s first week, did not affect the assembly lines pace last month.
Truck production, suffering since the beginning of the year from prices increase, was limited last month to about 7 thousand units, 16% less than in May and with an expressive 47% slump compared with the same month in 2022 when 13.4 thousand units were manufactured.
In the first semester, truck production fall was also relevant: 34% to 47.2 thousand units.
Bus production went down to 9.5 vehicles, 28.4% less than in the first half of last year. In June, only 1.9 thousand units rolled off the assembly lines.
