In an event held this Monday, 10/24, to show its participation at the Fenatran and actions toward decarbonization, Cummins revealed the projection of R$ 5.5 billion in earnings this year in Brazil, a 6% to 8% evolution over 2021, according to its president, Adriano Rishi.

The figures include proceeds of about R$ 2 billion from Meritor, which was acquired worldwide by Cummins last August and became a division of the traditional powertrain solutions supplier. “The purchase of Meritor places us at another level in the Brazilian heavy vehicle sector. The two companies have complementary products; therefore, it was a sum of business and yearly income, which jumped from R$ 3.5 billion to R$ 5.5 billion.

Now with four plants in Brazil, two of them from the axle manufacturer, Cummins currently has 3.3 thousand employees, 300 of them outsourced. “With this acquisition, we now work with almost all manufacturers operating in Brazil”, commented Rishi, remembering that the engines are supplied to VWCO, Agrale, Marcopolo and another truck manufacturer, which name he did not reveal.

For the first time, Cummins and Meritor will be together at the Fenatran from November 7 through 11. “Cummins will show its commitment to decarbonization at Latin America’s largest transport sector fair. “In this sense, we have a double-way approach: to reduce internal combustion engine emissions in parallel with investments in zero-emission products, about US$ 1 billion a year in future technologies research and development.”

Cummins invested in Brazil R$ 170 million in technology adequate to Euro VI, which will be effective on January 1, 2023. Among the engines, there were advances in the line from 3.8 liter to 9 liter. Worldwide, the company has invested strongly in hydrogen solutions, including a fuel-agnostic platform in the e-powertrain.
