The European commercial vehicle market had one more month of fall, the 15th consecutive. Data released by Acea, the regional association of manufacturers, shows that the transportation market bought in September 179.4 thousand units, 3% less than one year before, 185 thousand.

The volume includes sales from the European Union countries, the United Kingdom and the free trade association Efta (Island, Liechtenstein, Norway and Swiss).

With last month’s partial results, sales of vans, trucks and buses totaled 1.48 million units in the year, 17.5% less than in the same period in 2021, when 1.79 million units were sold.

The segment of vans up to 3.5 ton, the European commercial vehicle market’s most representative, with more than 80% of the sales, the monthly fall was 6.5%, with 145.7 thousand units delivered, compared to 155.8 thousand negotiated last year. From January through September, there was a fall of close to 30% to 1.19 million units, compared to 1.51 million one year ago.

In the opposite direction, sales of trucks over 3.5 ton registered growth. Last month, the market received 30.8 thousand units, 18% more than in September 2021, when 26.1 thousand vehicles were licensed. This year’s performance means a 1.3% growth over the volume registered over last year’s first nine months, from 256.2 thousand to 259.5 thousand trucks.

The bus market keeps cold in Europe. In September, there were only 2.7 thousand sales, a 7% drop compared to the same month in 2021, when 3 thousand units were sold. From January through September, 24.5 thousand buses were delivered, a 5.1% fall compared to the 25.9 thousand vehicles sold one year before.
