The official announcement of the production of a pickup truck in Brazil by Ram should happen in the next few weeks. Ram’s South America’s vice president, Breno Kamei, was at the Ram 1.500 Limited Brazilian premiere this Monday, 5/1, at Stellantis’ stand in the Agrishow, in Ribeirão Preto, SP.
“Shortly, in two weeks, we will promote an event to announce and give details about the production of a pickup in the country”, said the executive. The event should happen this month or the next. The idea of assembling a model in the Goiana Automotive Complex, in Pernambuco, where the Jeep models and the Fiat Toro are produced, dates back at least two years, but the semiconductors shortage postponed a final decision on it.
Kamei mentioned data showing the brand’s success in the Brazilian market and the local importance of the pickup segment. Ram sales until April were close to 3.3 thousand units, an expressive 560% growth over the same period last year.
Kamel also said there are waiting lines for some models, from 30 to 60 days, but assured the offer is much closer to demand than last year, when the lack of semiconductors harmed the production. He recalled that the pickup segment gained more participation, currently reaching 20% of the national automobile and light commercial vehicle market.
At the Agrishow, the brand is also presenting its models Classic, 1500, 2500 and 3500, some of them available for off-road testing on a track specially built for the event.
There is no official price for the 1.500 Limited yet, but a source revealed it should be close to R$ 530 thousand.
