Numbers still subject to small corrections indicate that vehicle licenses went slightly over 78 thousand units in August’s first fortnight, according to Marcelo Cavalcante Consulting.

The result is 30% under the first half of June, when licensing was still reflecting the government incentives for cars under R$ 120 thousand offered the month before.

Fiat, the leader in the first seven months of 2023, kept the position in the fortnight with 17.1 thousand automobiles and light commercials delivered, followed by Volkswagen (11.2 thousand) and General Motors.

Toyota, with close to 8.1 thousand registers, Hyundai (6.3 thousand), Jeep (4.7 thousand), Honda (3.1 thousand), Nissan (2.8 thousand) and Peugeot (1.5 thousand), complete the top ten bestsellers.

Except for Peugeot, which grew by 17.5% from the first half of July, and Jeep, which remained stable, the other eight brands fell. The worst slump was Hyundai’s, with 55% fewer sales.

Volkswagen’s registers also fell by 46%, as well as Renault’s. Fiat deliveries were reduced by 25% and GM’s, by 30%. Honda (-7%) and Toyota (-10%) were less hit.

On the other side, the newcomer BYD sold 553 units in August, a 107% growth, the largest among the more than 30 brands sold in Brazil.
