Bahia’s governor, Jerônimo Rodrigues, explained on Thursday, 8/17, in an event promoted by BYD in São Paulo, SP, how the negotiations with the Chinese manufacturer would proceed after Ford’s announcement about the devolution of the Camaçari plant to the state.

According to Rodrigues, the value of the indemnification to be paid to Ford for its investment in the facilities, especially equipment and machinery, should be evaluated by Caixa Econômica Federal.

“Our initial estimate is between R$ 100 million and R$ 150 million, which the two manufacturers were negotiating before the facilities were returned. The land belongs to us and, as we have done with Ford, we will concede it to BYD”, explained the governor.

After this agreement, which should happen soon, the government will negotiate with BYD how much it would pay for the plant. The expectation is that, by October, when BYD’s global president, Wang Chuanfu, will come to Brazil, all should be ready to start adapting Camaçari’s industrial unit.

The Chinese manufacturer announced last month a R$ 3 billion investment in the city before the end of negotiations between the state and Ford. The governor assures the payment to Ford is already foreseen in the State’s budget.

“We aim to attract new companies to Bahia. We have been today in São José dos Campos, SP, to negotiate with an airplane parts manufacturer. We also want to take to Bahia a bus manufacturer’, said Rodrigues.

When Ford informed about the agreement to revert the plant property to the state of Bahia, it said, “the process will follow the current legislation, which contemplates a later compensation to the company at market value.”

“The agreement aims to simplify and speed up the process of property transaction of the plant, contributing to generate value to the state and the community”, explained Ford’s communiqué.
