Rio de Janeiro was the stage of the world’s première of the Kardian. The urban compact SUV opens a new international era for Renault, marked by the full renovation of its product portfolio out of Europe.

Built on the new CMF platform, the model is driven by a new direct-injection 3-cylinder 1.0 turbo engine delivering 125 cv and 220 Nm and a double-clutch EDC transmission.

Already in pre-series production in São José dos Pinhais, PR, the car will be launched in March next year.

Developed by France and Brazil’s engineering, the Kardian will be exported to 20 Latin American countries and will also be produced in Casablanca, Marrocos, for other countries out of Europe.

Among the main novelties of the new phase, Fabrice Cambolive, Renault brand’s CEO, emphasized the return in Brazil of Renault’s DNA (the current models made in the country use Dacia platforms).

The new SUV will compete with Fiat Pulse and VW Nivus, but its price will be disclosed only at the Brazilian market debut next year.

The Kardian’s front boasts the new brand identity with the “Nouvel’R” logo and a new light signature. Internally, the console is higher and carries an “e-shifter” gear lever. The Multi-Sense system allows to customize driving, and the internal environment has eight light options.

The Kardian has six airbags and 13 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including blind spot alert and multi-vision camera.
With the new platform that enables models from 4 to 5 meters long, Renault may develop diverse models for various markets. The Kardian is 4.12 meter-long, 1.75 meter-wide and 1.54 meter high.
