Marcopolo’s 2022 financial balance, presented this Tuesday, 2/28, shows strong signs of bus sales recovery after the decline caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Last year, the sector’s giant had a R$ 5.4 billion revenue, 54.8% more than in 2021. R$ 3.1 billion of this amount corresponded to domestic sales, 58.7% of the total, and R$ 2.2 billion came from businesses abroad, 41.3%.

Gross profit was R$ 829.5 million, a 132% increase over 2021 and 15.3% of the net revenue. EBITDA reached R$ 385.6 million in 2022, with a 7.1% margin. The company had a net profit of R$ 436.8 million in the year, a 21.9% growth compared to 2021, with an 8.1% net margin.

According to Marcopolo, the performance reflects the 31.1% production growth over 2021 to 14.7 thousand units, 86.6% manufactured in Brazil and 13.4% abroad. 2.1 thousand units were manufactured for exportation in 2022, 13.9% more than in 2021 (1.8 thousand units).

“2022 numbers reassure us we began to pick the fruits of a cultural and structural transformation plan we promoted over the last two years’, said James Bellini, Marcopolo’s CEO. “We optimized our investments, re-structured our operations and presented the market important launches, as the road vehicles Generation 8 and the full Marcopolo Attivi, a 100% electric bus with brand’s chassis and body.”

According to the company, the market recovery and the sales mix evolution with new higher aggregated value products helped to recompose margins and keep the lead in the bus body market, with a 53.5% share.
