With 10.63 million units sold from January through September, the used vehicle market grew by 8.8% over the 9.77 million sales registered last year.

Considering this performance, Fenauto, the organization that represents independent multibrand dealers, maintains its forecast of 15 million used units sold in the year.

Like in the new car market, used vehicle segment sales fell in September due to the number of business days, 20, versus 23 in August. The fall reached 13.7%, but the working days’ average reduction was only 1%. Fenauto data include all segments – light, heavy and motorcycles.

Models no longer produced dominate the used market, especially the semi-new. The leaders are the VW Gol, Fiat Uno and Palio, which sold 60.4 thousand, 34 thousand and 32.1 thousand units in September.

Among used light commercial vehicles, the leaders are models still being produced as the Fiat Strada (25,904 units in September), VW Saveiro (17,991) and Toyota Hilux (12,697). The Italian brand pickup also leads the brand-new market among utility vehicles and light vehicles in general, including automobiles.

The three best-selling used motorbikes last month were the Honda CG 150 (62,915 units), Honda Biz (27,974) and Honda CG 125 (27,974).

Fenauto also registers used electrified models. The leaders of this segment were the Toyota Corolla (793 units), Toyota Corolla Cross (455) and Volvo CX60 (191).

Enilson Sales, Fenauto’s president, commented that the consumer confidence index is still growing, and the second semester has traditionally been better than the first, so the association keeps its estimate of 15 million used vehicles sold this year.

Fenauto assembles 29 regional associations countrywide, with 48 thousand semi-new and used vehicle dealers.
