Renewing its portfolio to meet the regulations of the new phase of Pronconve P8, equivalent to Euro 6, Scania decided to enter the truck rental business. Scania Locação will be a new manufacturer’s service in the country, with operations starting November at the Fenatran 2022. The first deliveries are programmed for February 2023.

Initially, it will be offered the just-presented Euro 6 truck lineup, including gas-powered models. The contracts vary from 24 to 60 months, and it is possible to rent a single vehicle. The program also includes vehicle management services, such as maintenance plans, connectivity-based resources, technical assistance 24 hours and insurance.

According to Silvio Munhoz, Scania’s commercial operations general director in Brazil, truck rental is an option increasingly present in transporters’ business plans, considering some contracts and services. “It does not replace new vehicle sales. On the contrary, customers interested in this option will be able to expand their transport operation profiles.”

Scania brought the experience from Europe, perceiving the interest in hiring. In that market, the manufacturer has been in the rental business for 30 years and has more than 6 thousand trucks hired. “After a viability project, we decided this is the right moment to enter this business in Brazil. One of our differentials will be Scania being responsible for the administration.”

Scania is the third large truck manufacturer to announce its debut in heavy vehicle rental. The move started in August, with the opening of VW Truck Rental and, last month, with Volvo Locação, for truck, bus and construction equipment rental.
