A[/dropcar]fter registering record sales last year, the used car market keeps slipping this year. With 828.8 thousand transactions in November, the used automobile and light commercial vehicles totaled 9.2 million units in the year, 11.1% less than in the same period last year (10.3 million). The number of new vehicles registered had a 1.4% fall, reaching 1.75 million units.

Fenabrave’s president, José Maurício Andreta Jr., recalls that the lack of new vehicles last year, caused by the semiconductors shortage, favored the used market. Without brand new cars in the dealers, the consumers opted for a pre-owned vehicle up to three years old, despite the high prices of the segment at the time.

“Last year, with the lack of new cars, the used segment gained space. This year, with the 0km stocks recovery, the market is adjusting”, said Andreta Jr. According to the executive, semi-new vehicles were 14.3% of the total transactions in November and 12% of light vehicle sales during the last 11 months.

Considering all Fenabrave associates, including heavy vehicles, implements and motorcycles, the used market reached 1.1 million units in November, close to October, and 12.5 million in the year. Compared to the 13.9 million vehicles sold from January through November 2021, there was a 10.3% fall.

The bus segment is the only one registering a positive performance. With 39.1 units negotiated, it grew 6.8% over last year. Truck sales fell 15.6%  to 311.8 thousand units, and motorcycles fell 7% to nearly 2.8 million units.
