The incentive package for heavy vehicle purchases’ main condition is scrapping a truck or bus at least 20 years old.Only with the vehicle destruction and the consequent registration write-off will the transporter receive the discounts from R$ 33.6 thousand through R$ 99.4, depending on the new vehicle’s cargo or passenger capacity.

To obtain the discount, the scrapped vehicle must be in running condition and have all documents in order. The owner could opt for a new vehicle of the same category as the scrapped one or inferior, never superior.

The Federal Government provisioned R$ 1 billion for the heavy segment – R$ 700 million for trucks and R$ 300 million for buses.

Such as the measure for light vehicles, the measure is effective for 120 days or until the provisioned resources end. Autonomous drivers and individual consumers can already receive the incentives, while juridic persons will have to wait until June 21.
Potential to replace 10 thousand old trucks

Anfavea is still studying the impacts the measure should bring to the heavy segment. Regarding trucks, considering the average vehicle cost, the association estimates the R$ 700 million allocated would enable the replacement of about 10 thousand old units.

“Anyway, it is still early for projections. It must now watch the market behavior”, said Gustavo Bonini, Anfavea’s vice president, in a press conference this Tuesday, 6/6.

The executive stressed that the initiative is important, as besides renewing the fleet, it incentives the sale of Proconve P8 vehicles, equivalent to Euro 6. In the first five months of the year, only 17% of the 44.6 thousand licensed trucks were produced this year, and only 6.5% of 9.5 thousand buses sold were Euro 6 models.
